Ok, here's a tough one. 2002 Mazda Protege. New starter (which has built in coil). New battery. Turn the key on, all accessory items work fine. Turn it over, it drains all the way down as if it were a dead battery. Jump it off, same thing (but it starts about 1 out of 5 times depending how long you leave the jump connected and running). Checked grounds to engine and chassis. Everything fine. Ran extra grounds to block and manifold just in case. ......Now. when this first happened, there was a burning smell. Like a burnt coil (i.e. i replaced the starter). I replaced the starter, new battery and ran extra grounds. Helped a little ( hence, now i can start it with a jump 1 out of 5). Any takers?????
