Default new motor in my 86 na doesnt hold choke on startup

Hi, I am new to this forum. I have an 86 rx NA which I just put a rebuilt into, its got a rebuilt auto and a transmission cooler on it as well, my daily driver. It runs great, idles at 800 when warm, plenty of power, only has about 150 miles on it now. The thing is that on the initial cold start up it doesnt rev to 3k and hold, what it does is rev to 3k and then tries to idle, and since its cold it dies unless you keep it reving long enough to warm it up, about a minute or so. So I am wondering if this is due to low compression from the new motor not having been broken it yet and only having 150 miles on it; or if I may have not connected something properly? Anyone ever have this issue with a motor swap?
