Default Noisy gearbox / clutch?

Hi, My Mazda 6 (2004 model / 42K on the clock) has recently developed a condtion whereby when the driving along - i.e. in gear, a kind of squeaky noise can be heard coming from outside the vehicle. This is especially noticable when changing gear or pulling away or slowing down to navigate a roundabout. However, if the car is moving along (down a hill for example) but is in neutral, the noise goes away.

Additionally, when the car is idling in neutral in the driveway, no problem, but once I depress the clutch - even without engaging a gear, the noise can be heard, but less so than when teh car is moving along and in gear.

Any ideas or suggestions as to what this is likely to be would be most welcome.

Much obliged,

Chris D.
