My Mazda 3 was hit by lightning! It has power but will not turn over! Any tips/tricks?
Hello all, im new to this forum. I have a 2007 Mazda3 and it was hit by lightning the other day. There is a lightning bolt burn mark on the grill and when i go to turn the car on, all the lights on my instrument panel turn on, and the light that has a picture of a red car and a key flashes and the engine will not turn over.
The windows and power door locks work fine. The lights work, however, when the batter is connected and the car is sitting there with no key in it, the passenger side dirrectional lights just stay on until i disconnect the batter.
This is really strange i have no idea what to do!
Any ideas? Could it be the ECU? Wiring harness?
Thanks so much!

Hi! I know this is a really old thread, but would you be able to share an update? My Mazda 3 was struck by lightening and experiencing the same as you did. Did you end up fixing it? What did you have to fix? I’m looking for a place to start..

Yes this is an old thread and the member that started it has not been around if you look since Dec 12, 2007| 02:00 PM
I can suggest that for the very few lighten struck vehicles if than had questionable ground we generally will service the battery cables, more than often replace the battery and also try the latest or original ECU/PCM Flash. If the flash show has trouble accepting or there are indicators that the flash was not accomplished, then the suspect is generally the ECU/PCM. In every case where we replaced the customers ECU/PCM the vehicle started with no problems.
