I will check the egr valve this evening when I get home from work, thankyou. A Capella is the japanese market equivalent of a 626, or so I am told. Ours is a 1.8 Auto which until now has been good, apart from when it was imprted into NZ a few years ago they pressure washed the engine and the spark plug wells in the head must have filled with water, this slowly coroded the contacts to the spark plugs, difficult to see, causing a persistant and alarming missfire.

Elaine's car, a 1996 1800 mazda capella imported from japan as a used car doesn't seem to have a EGR valve, I pressume this is used in the emmision control system in America and similar markets. I looked where it appears to be fixed, under the throttle body and nothing. I am now going to assume that this nozzle should be blanked on this car. I will now try the standard stuff for running rough just after a service, I will replace the spark plugs again, just in case I fitted a bad one, and then the plug leads as they are disturbed when you change the plugs so may have been damaged. Does anyone know if the distributor cap, and rotor arms are service parts on this car, not disturbed but they may be next before giving in and taking it to a garage. I was an engineer, and now lecture management so going to the garage is a last resort for a bored and frustrated engineer. Thanks for all your help I will report back when it is sorted.

Mathew, just FYI. It is possible that Capella has EGR. Please see two photos of this valve on Mazda Capella Wagon FS-DE, ATX, 1999. Also, I today received info from one guy who tells he has similar nozzle on his airbox and the hose from this nozzle goes to EGR valve. But his car is Mazda Capella Wagon GWFW 2.0 Turbo DIESEL
