Maintenance Costs

Maintenance Costs
So I took in my 2006 Mazda 6 for the 60,000 mile maintenance today, and the dealer called me with a bunch of extra maintenance. I know that these prices are high (see below), but I'm not sure where to take my car to get these things done cheaper. I'm not a tech guy, so I don't think I can fix any of them on my own (except the wiper blades )
Any suggestions? I was thinking about calling Midas for a quote on the brakes, but I'm not sure on the other stuff at all...
Front Brakes and Rotors - 452.12
Booser Hose - 166.13
Battery - 231.48
Spark Plug Replacement - 400.27
Power Steering Flush - 149.95
PCM and TCM updates - 140.00
Wiper Blades - 33.00
Thanks a ton!

RE: Maintenance Costs
Wow, are these US dollar prices? Seems like a real ripoff, even for a dealership. Looks like the dealerships are making up for lost new car sales by taking their existing customers to the cleaners.
I question why you would need new rotors at 60K miles, unless they are deeply scored or warped. If the battery is bad it should be covered under warranty. At the least you should get some kind of discount towards a replacement. Not sure why new spark plugs cost $400, you can buy platinum NGK for about $3 each. Does the whole top of the engine need to be taken off to replace plugs? The power steering flush is a ripoff. Wiper blades are about $15.
Also don't see an oil change with new filter, that should be done with every service at the dealership. The dealership will also charge you for a new drain plug gasket, it's a 50 cent part but they typically will charge you $5. You should continue to take your car to a Mazda dealership until it is out of warranty. I can't help but think you need to go to a different dealership though.......

Booser Hose - 166.13 - Booster hose maybe? Not sure what this is referencing.
Battery - 231.48 - You can buy a replacement battery at any store for <$100. Replacement takes only a couple of minutes and hardly any tools
Spark Plug Replacement - 400.27 - Parts will only run you $30 (assuming $5 each for the plugs), and the front 3 are easy, but the back three require removal of the intake and a couple of hoses. There is a link on this website that gives a blow by blow of this procedure. Can be a pain.
Power Steering Flush - 149.95 - Check with midas, etc. this seems high
PCM and TCM updates - 140.00 - ?????? For what? are you having trouble with your car?
Wiper Blades - 33.00 - total ripoff - $15 and no tools required to change them.
I'd take some of that money they want you to spend in their shop and buy some tools and a manual and get working.....
