I'm helping a friend purchase another car. We are going to look at a 2001 626 with 111k miles. 4cyl/automatic. 2 owner car. current owner has owned since 2003. asking $2200. pictures we've seen, car looks well taken care. if the car drives good and everything works, is this a good deal. he's just looking for a car for around town, not going to take any trips with it. thanks steve

 

The 1998-2002 626's with automatic transmissions were plagued with issues because the CD4E transmissions were too small and overheated. The only way to protect from this is to install a transmission cooler.

My bet is this particular 626 you are looking at has already had the transmission replaced.

Personally I would only own a 5 speed 626.
