Aux fan Turns off causing overheat.
I have an 02 Protege 5.
The second radiator fan (passenger) side turns off when the car heats up and causes the radiator to boil over.
As soon as car gets hot, it turns off and car overheats.
I changed the Thermostat. I changed the relays.
For some reason that fan turns off.
Anyone seen this issue?

The obvious is the fan may bay simply be starting to fail. If the armature expands in the motor it can cause the motor to either slow down or shut off until it is cooler. You can also measure the ohms when this happens and even the voltage load (harder to do) If you are not blowing fuses and relay, then I would at least test the .

thanks for the response. This helps. At the end you were saying to test the…. Did you mean to test them?
A fan has an ohms during it motor speed. Even if you don't know it you can test to see what it is comparing the known working fan. Also you could disconnect the problem fan and hot wire direct to a battery supply and let the fan run and see if it intermittently stops after about 5 minutes. Not a conclusive test . I can really think of anything in a dual fan system that one fan would do that as described if the connectors or wires going to the problematic are not damaged. Also, in most application a single relay for both fans on most HVAC systems. On some newer model platforms, the ECU will run each fan separately as needed but using the AC generally the fan control is equal to both? But it varies.
