Article on Mazda's remanufacturing facility
I ran across this article today:
MAZDA EXPANDS REMANUFACTURING FACILITY AND TECHNICAL CENTER | MazdaUSAMedia
What struck me most about the article were the relative numbers. Unless I'm missing something, the combined sales of the Mazda3 and Mazda5 exceed the sales numbers of the RX-8 by several orders of magnitude. That said, the facility in Chesterfield County, VA remanufactured some 5,000 Renesis rotary engines while they're only expecting to rebuild some 3,000 Automatic transmissions from the Mazda3 and Mazda5.
I've been led to believe the Automatic transmissions in question are maybe not the most robust of small car Automatics on the market and have a relatively high failure rate (granted I have no numbers to point to to support that conclusion), so in relation to the RX-8 engine failures, this means a huge percentage of them have been failing.
Thoughts?
