As far as copies are concerned, I don't know why someone would go through all the trouble to make knock-offs. I will say that 60 Minutes did a story about 2 yrs ago, about just that subject. There is a Huge black market in China making almost anything. They had done a brand new BMW 5-series that looked exactly like the real thing. It was said that it drove NOTHING like the real thing but was so good visually as to fool almost anyone. And that was just the largest example they used. *EDIT* 15lbs is quite light and they might be forged, but they might not. Look for full machining vs. any rough casting, especially on the back of the wheel. Of course forged wheels are known to be very light and very strong compared to cast wheels. The metal is usually thinner, but denser than casting. However, my 17" Kosei's are low pressure cast then shot peened (a poor man's forging process to add some of the strength of a forged wheel,) and they only weigh around 14lbs each. Then there are the Enkei RPF-1's that in a 17" size weigh in @ just 15.2lbs ea. They might also be a hybrid wheel. The outer rim being forged while the inner center is cast then the two joined together. |
Thanks Virgin1 your help is very much appreciated. And as for the Chinese imitation of the BMW story. I found that very funny. It's funny how they can imitate the look but can not imitate the way it drives. I'm was surprised to hear that story haha. I did a little search about that and came found out that they were also able to make RICE!!! taste and look EXACTLY like it out of nylon and plastic.
With all the are able to do, its a mystery on why can't they just build something great. And as for my set of rims (in which i do not need) how much should i sell it for? I don't want to over priced them. |
Good Lord, I don't have a clue. Some further research might be needed here to not get ripped off, or give them away. Perhaps follow that auction and see what they bring? You would have to do a money exchange converter to see what they might be worth here. Or, post them on an eBay like auction site. Set a reserve @ say, $100, or $200 and see what happens. I see similar looking wheels on big pickup trucks and tall cars (22"-26" wheels) these days, but of course they are all bling and chrome plated, and chances are these wouldn't fit any of those vehicles anyway. They are not to my tastes either way. As far as the helping you is concerned, I did try, but I think you may have gotten more/better info from your friend on RX7 Club. Sorry I failed..... :( |
the ray's ms-01's are the most sought after and they go for between $800 and $1500 with all of the center caps and the original gold paint intact. average price tends to float around $1100.
ray's ms-02's are less sought after but more rare. they usually go for about $100 less than the 01's. those are RWD rims though. yours will probably be somewhere in the $700-900 range just because of the original mazdaspeed equipment stigma. if you can find some documentation on them and find someone who is building up a 626, you can get the top of the market. people go nuts for JDM stuff. |
