86 626 wiring question
ok i was told that my madza has a ford selnoid mounted on the fire wall. three wires coming out of it. on the left side it light with a grounded troubled lite. smaller wire in the middle and another big wire on the red side. should power be coming out of these and should the trouble lite light? also on the coil the postive side lites with the troulble light with key on. should the neg side also lite the trouble light? im alone and cannot tell if im getting any fire coming out of the coil? any suggestions? need very badly to get my car back on the road. i would appreciate any advice i can get thanks ted
Hi Ted, There should not be any Ford solenoid that I am aware of on a 86 626. Pure Mazda built back then. Can you tell where these wires go to and what the solenoid is for. Try to describe it as best as possible as it may be something that has been added on by former owner.
Looks like you should have three wires at both the "+" and "-" coil connections. The wires on the positive side should be two that are black w/ white stripe and one solid black. Wires on the positive side should be two yellow w/ blue stripe and one solid blue.
Is normal and ok to have your test light light up and bothwire terminals of the coilwith the ignition key on. When cranking the engine over the negative side should start blinking on and off. Positive should stay lit all the time and never go out unless you turn off the key. Even if this is working as it should we still need a way to see if you are getting a spark to the end of the spark plug wires where they would connect to the spark plugs.

tahe previous owner told me that the ford part was an add on? i will look and check the wiring to see if everything is in the right spot.i will get back with you. oh and by the way thank you thank you very much for taking your time to talk with me about this issue that has me completly grounded. thanks again ted
