Red face 2009 mazda 3bl 6speed man tran issues

Hi All,
I am new here, and trying to find a solution. I have a Mazda 3bl petrol 6 speed manual. Have had the car for 4-5 years with no real issues. Over the last few months my wife and i have found it harder changing into 3rd and 5th gears. recently it has become nearly impossible. However this is intermittent, and the strange part is that it only happens after the car has warmed up, usually about 25 min??????? As a side note it has also started to not want to go into reverse, also after the car has warmed up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as have had it at a mechanic, it did not fault for them, so they said could not do anything.. The mileage is just over 200000 kms.
Many thanks in advance Dave

How old is the gearbox oil?

How old is the clutch? Home many kms/miles? Where is the bite point?

gearbox oil is prob 50000 km old, i would say it is original clutch as i have not changed it and do not suspect it was done before i purchased car. Car has done 201000 kms
Bite point ??? where clutch takes up I'm guessing. it is near top of pedal range, not near floor..

Having the bite point at the top of the pedal travel is a very good indication the clutch is at the end of its life.

Have a go of changing thru the gears when warm, engine running, clutch in, while sitting still, how does 3rd & 5th feel? Try the same, but engine off, how does it feel?

There is adjustment in the shifter cable, where it connects to the gearshift assembly.

Hi,
Thank you for your help. I shall try as you said and see how it goes.
If it is harder with engine off, what does that indicate??

Thanks again, Dave

If it is always easy with the engine off, then the clutch is suspect, if it is hard with the engine off, then gearbox oil is suspect.

Hi All,

Thank you for your help. The problem was the clutch, worn out and rubbing on rivets. Have replaced clutch today and replaced oil as well. All linkages looked fine, and are now operating as they should. So fingers crossed that will be the end of the issues.

Regards, Dave
