The code says it is a lean condition. Either you have a vacuum leak, a dirty MAF sensor, or a fuel delivery problem. Or a combination of them. I guess it is a fuel delivery problem since it works alright when the tank is full.
Make sure the tank is properly vented, try a Gum Out fuel injector cleaner that has lubricants for the pump etc, and check for vacuum leaks in particular at hose connections, loose hoses and such. If that doesn't help check fuel pressure, change fuel filter, in a real bad case you may need a new fuel pump.

Did you ever run out of gas?

Good luck.

This is a coincidence... one of my co-workers has a Suzuki XL-7 (06 or 07) and is having similar symptoms so I told him I would check the web to see what I could find out. It appears on these Suzuki's the purge valve solenoid goes bad after 100+ thousand miles. here is the link to the thread I came across.

06 XL-7 Purge Valve defective - Suzuki Forums: Suzuki Forum Site

I'm not saying this is the problem, after all it could be something as simple as a bad gas cap. Just something to consider...
