Default 2.0L I4 interchangable years?

Which years of engine block will interchange.

I was looking for a engine for a 94 626 and found one in a 96 probe which is 93-97 for me, and I am pretty happy with it but I could of looked for a newer lower mileage IF.................Supposedly the years are

First Generation (1979-1982) - I4, 2.0 liters, SOHC, 2bbl carb
Second Generation (1983- 1987) I4, 2.0 liters, SOHC, 2bbl carb (1986-87: fuel injection)
Third Generation (1988-1992) - I4, 2.2 liters, SOHC, 3 valves per cylinder, fuel injection
Fourth Generation (1993-1997) - I4, 2.0 liters, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder, fuel injection
Fifth Generation (1998-2002) - I4, 2.0 liters, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder, fuel injection

Are the forth and fifth generations engine blocks the same or is there some external part line up issues?

can we put a fifth gen long or short block in a fourth gen car-will the tranny's bolt up?

I'm sure there must be some sensor to computor problems OBD-I vs OBD-II....but if the blocks are the same then you swap whatever sensor parts needed, MAF, EGR, IAC, TEMP etc etc
