upgrade speakers, not head unit - worth it?
Got a 2008 Mazda3i for the wife. She wants me to upgrade the audio.
Anyways I don't really want to change the head unit since it's so integrated with the car, I like the LCD readout with the temps and all, and I really like the steering wheel controls...
I'm going to throw in a small sub with a high-to-low level signal box for a little bit of bass. I want some crisp highs though....
So woould I benefit at all with upgrading the speakers only? I'm going for the Infinity Ref. 6x8s, $120 for four.
Or is the stock deck the limiting factor here?
I've done a few car systems but never used the stock deck with new speakers.

I haven't done it, but I think it would be an excellent upgrade!!
The factory speakers are sh*t like most of them are. Anything would be an improvement and a relatively cheap one too.
I say go for it!!
Yeah I saw it (https://www.mazdaforum.com/forum/audio-visual-electronics-10/hooking-up-subwoofer-if-using-stock-deck-17482/), seems like a pretty standard install, now I just have to order the speakers...
