Default Program key??

My mechanic reset my computer and reconfigured one of my keys. He didn't have the 2nd key at the time and now that key no longer is programmed for the car.

We had a bad experience with the mechanic so I would rather not go back if I can reprogram the 2nd one myself. Is there a way to do that via some kind of steps?

Yeah all you have to do is put the key in ignition, turn it to AC then back to off about 6 to 7 times really fast (DO NOT START THE CAR). When you have done that you should notice the locks on the car lock and unlock by themselves. Once that happens, quickly press a key on the remote and it should be programmed. Let me know if this helps!

Are you describing how to program the key fob remote or the actual key itself. I was under the impression that the actual key has a security chip which has to be programmed by a dealership in order to work with the security system/ignition.

My understanding is that you can only program additional keys if two keys are programmed and present at the time of programming.

Same with key fobs in that any you want programmed must be present when you program in the extra/new one but there isn't the minimum 2 criteria.

As you now only have a single key programmed you need to revisit the mechanic with both keys or take it to a dealer. The mechanic should have known he would be deprogramming the spare key though...?

You need both keys as they both need to be reprogrammed again, the above is the correct procedure for the key fobs and after the door locks cycle for the first fob you then need to press the second fobs button to program that one as the codes cycle every time the programming is entered so if you reprogram your spare without the one done by the mechanic the one done by the mechanic will no longer work
