Default Protege 2002 rear brakes SCREECH

Hi all,

When I start driving the car in the morning (or first time for the day) and apply the brakes, there is an unpleasant screech sound from the rear brakes.
The brakes are at 4 mm. Fluids are fine.

This sound does not repeat later in the day, (as if something gets "cleared away" for the rest of the day) just after a few minutes of driving and braking. (It might occasionally come back here and there)

we'll probably replace the pads because they're getting close to be done but does anyone have an idea for the cause of it, other then pads?

many thanks!

It sounds like the Brake Rotors rusting overnite, if it goes away after the first few applications of the brakes then you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for your reply. I replaced the rear pads yesterday and it turned out that the inside pad was more worn off than the one you can see from outside.
The noise did not repeat this morning...but who knows? the rust option makes sense. I'll "keep an ear" to it
many thanks!
