Shift Solenoid problem 98 Millenia S
Hi guys,
I just purchased a 1998 Millenia S (2.3L Supercharged, Automatic Transmission). The problem with the car is that it won't shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear all the time. The rpm's won't go back down. I have a diagnostic machine and these are the error codes.
P0755 -Shift Solenoid B
P0431 Warm up Catalyst below Threshold Bank 2
P0421 Bank 1
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John

when was the last time, if ever, that the transmission fluid was serviced? i would start there, and add some lubegard. cause if the solenoid is bad, that sucker is in the valve body.
0421/31 is your pre cats. also fairly big bucks, and a fair amount of labor. both cats will cost you about 800 with tt&l. then, there are a bunch of gaskets, too.

well, back to the first question. when was the last time the fluid was changed? if you dont know, pull out the dipstick, and look/smell it. if it is dark, and smells burned, i would first try a couple of fluid changes, or find a shop with a flush machine and have it done. you have to find out if the cats are really bad, or if the post oxygen sensors are wacky. it is a common problem for the sensors to be too sensitive. some people use spark plug anti foulers in between, and they will make the post cat sensor less sensitive, so it wont throw the ce lite. the cats wont go bad unless they are contaminated, and that is hard to diagnose. there is also at least 1 other inexpensive fix, but it aint legal. go to ebay and look up oxygen sensor.

Did the Transflush with the Duralube and it's working better, but not perfectly. I like the car alot though. It has a beautiful ride. Much more relaxing than my 425hp Stang. Is it possible to do a pulley swap and add more hp?

dunno anything about duralube. looks like lights and mirrors to me. lubegard works. several car manufacturers specify it as an additive to their transmissions. i have been using it for years. it's your money.

I am having trouble.
I got the CE light to come on and checked the code to find that the Shift solenoid B for my '98 Millenia S was having an error. I have the new solenoid, but it looks much different than the others. Anyone have a diagram or possibly the knowledge to tell me which solenoid is which?
