Default Mazda CX5 fuel efficiency?

Hi I have a 2016.5 mazda cx5 GT 2WD, with 4,800 miles on it. (those that are familiar with socal) on the weekends I drive from Perris to san diego which is roughly 80 miles then drive back up, for a round trip of 160 miles. this past weekend I drove about 200 miles. I filled up before the trip. after coming back from my round trip, im at about 1/3 of my tank left. Mileage till empty displays 106.
Does it seem that im sucking down more gas than my car should be? I usually set my cruise control at 80mph.

Sounds bang on where it should be given how fast you travel.

Yep; that 80 mph cruise setting is the culprit. Price you pay for pushing a "brick" through the air at that speed.

Yeah, I guess I need to slow down. I'm used to going 80mph and getting 28mpg in my Passat, but now I'm getting 24mpg. I will try to slow down and see how much of an improvement it makes. (When I bought the car with 28,000 miles on it, the fuel economy read 27mpg, so the last owner must have been easier on the pedal!)

I average 26.7 mpg with 6600 miles on the clock. I do a lot of highway and parked while running.

Roughly 15mpg here, lots of city traffic and rarely goes over 40mph :-/

On a 2014 GT with the 2.5, my wife gets about 21.1 on short trips in town (when I drive it, I get about 23). On trips with the cruise set at about 75, I get between 26 and 29. For comparisons, my 2013 MX5 Club with the manual six speed gets around 25 around town and 33 on the highway and my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with the 3.6 six cylinder gets around 18 in town and 25 on the highway. For a real comparison, my old 2004 Tahoe got 13 in town and 18 on the highway and my 1978 Bronco got 9 and 12.

When I keep my speed around 65 I can get 400 miles on a full tank. The gauge will be on empty (no bars) and the yellow warning light will be on, but I will still have 2 gallons in the tank.
