Having replaced quite a few masts on these cars with the a-pillar mounted antenna, I would seriously advise you to consider having it replaced by a dealer or good aftermarker stereo shop. It is one the most dreaded jobs to do due to the lack of space to work and trying to get new mast fed back into the motor. The entire fuse box will need to come out to even see the motor and if you are not careful the relay can be damaged. Might consider putting a plain old manual style mast in. Believe me, you will thank me later!!!

I have same car, same problem, I just pulled the antenna out a couple of feet and the radio works good, I was surprised.
