Why are some car enthusiasts on Reddit, YouTube, Quora and around idiotic?
Hello everyone. I know this question might be a bit heated.
Outside of this community, I was formerly on car communities on Reddit and YouTube. I also browse Quora car questions. And oh boy, I have had some bad experiences. (I don’t want to be biased here. I like all types of cars.)
Here are some of my experiences:
1. I was on the r/cars subreddit and I said a calm take about a car brand and why it shouldn’t receive hate on the sub (Lexus). Then other car enthusiasts on the sub lashed out on me saying, “You are blowing smoke.”, “You are out of touch”, “You are eating **** for a badge”, etc.
2. I was on a YouTube car community and there were youngsters arguing on why Hyundai is a terrible brand and how BMW is better.
3. Also on YouTube, there was an angry YouTube commenter on a Mazda video who was complaining and whining why Mazda should only put touchscreens on a car (Mazda put rotary ***** in 2019 and present models) and asked why can’t Mazda be like Toyota/Honda and put touchscreens. He also proceeded to call out another YouTube commenter for liking the rotary-**** infotainment system and said “You use a flip-phone”.
4. Most of the time on Reddit/YouTube (pretty much sums up my question), the comment section is full of people who say:
- “Why can’t this car be a manual? Manuals are better than automatics. Automatics are for women and manuals are for real men!”
- “This car is so boring! This brand is so boring!”
- “Car X is ****, I’d rather buy Car Y.” (Without even experiences Car X and Car Y)
- “Brand X is ****, I’d rather buy Brand Y.” (Without even experiencing Brand X or Brand Y)
- “0-60 in 6.6 secs?! That’s laughable” (0-60 doesn’t always matter)
- “230 hp is nothing” (Once again, horsepower doesn’t matter and anything above 200hp is plenty)
- “The interior is sad. I’d rather buy a “better” car with a better interior.”
And the list of comments go on and on.
Why can’t car enthusiasts on Reddit/YouTube/Quora and around appreciate all cars? If you think a car is boring or terrible, don’t buy it? Don’t talk about it? Why make a huge stink on the forums about it?
Sorry if I sounded angry in this post. I wanted to clear my mind and talk about an issue in the car scene that not everyone talks about.

To many know-it all that are really know it less. Predominately males think they know everything there is about most vehicles and especially the gem of a Pinto(pun from a decade when they were manufactured) they drive. LOL
On this forum it is almost the same thing. (will see who points the figure at me?) LOL
This thread really explains better?
