Default The Run-mill: A Chevy Cruze Engine Change

Late last night, during the mixed winter weather. A certain marketplace ad appealed to my stepson.

He has a twin brother that rearranged an Excursion's front end with his brother's 2016 Cruze Limited that we gifted to him. While Door Dashing...Bummer....

Anyway, This slid through a specific marketplace... I was sent to retrieve it.

First off, the key/fob combo is damaged. And of course the battery is dead.

I am going to unload it and start checking stuff.

Nevermind the moon finger...

After charging the battery (which held a charge) and airing up the tires. I dug around and found a new replacement key fob and new battery. (All on hand from the previous silver car.) 😃

Popped it apart and swaped in the circuit board and correct key shank for the red car.
It would spin over but not start. After priming the switch a slew of times it started hitting and missing while spinning. More hits and misses slowly gaining cranking speed and with some throttle manipulation, it did start. 😃

After warming up, I found it pushes the coolant out of the tank when capped and spews white smoke from the exhaust. Otherwise, runs good and is extremely hard to re-start. 🤔
Typical headgasket indicators. 😒
I have not tried to coolant pressure test it, but I am sure it will fail miserably and most likely hydrolock afterwards. 😬

Rather than diagnose the actual problem... (hurts my head) I will just swap engines from the silver one to the red one. Pull 2 and pretend to put 1 back in. 😉

Goal is... before New Year's. Oh... and, in the open gravel driveway. Should be great! 👍 Seeya there! 😂

Well, I have no doubt that you will have it done by the 1st.......yeah, you still need that concrete slab!

I just had all 3 buildings here re-shingled......new skylights, vents, etc. I will finally get to work on the VW bug some on Thursday!

It is the original 1600cc engine......the original fuel injection is still installed and working also. I pulled all of the injectors and cleaned them here at home.......runs good!
