Depending on what year it was (at least a '74 in this case) it either had the 1.7 or 1.8L FI 914 engine. I had a '72 w/the 1.7L, dual-carburetted. Ittoo ran like crap and there seemed nothing to do (within reason) to make it any better. I kept it less than a year.
my dad made the car last about a yr and a half. i called to ask the yr of the van and he told me '79. but thinkin bout it, the van didnt that retro. were these elephants built during the '80s too? and one thing i find hilariousss bout these vans is the e-brake comes out of the dash.. lmao.. never seen that before this car, and never saw it again. haha.. hippies are hilarious.. like... FAR OUTTT
I don;t feel like looking itup right now, but the Beetle was the last of the air-cooled Vdubs in the states and it's last year was '79, conv only.
Ithink the type II's stopped in '76 w/the Vanagon (water-cooled) starting in '77 or '78.
Oh, and many cars, especiallyAmerican cars, had the hand brake coming out of the dash.I can think of at least one French car that had that too. (Peugeot.) Triumph sedans had one like that in the '60's/'70's too.
The true hippie movement died in the mid-'60's... some would say '65 when Bob Dylan showed up atthe Montery (?) Folk Festival w/an electric guitar and band.
I, like most of the ppl I grew up w, were Yippies... hippie wannabe's. The fun and the look w/o all thepolitics and social unrest.
Yippies were not to be taken seriously.
Hippies were leftovers from the Beatnick era (late '50's/early '60's)and were usually dirty and very politically active.
either way i can definitely see rich with a crazy hairdo and a rainbow head band throwing up the piece sign with a blunt in between his lips.. lmao!! im basing my imagination on the pic of u behind the drum set.. lol
Peace, Baby!!! [sm=icon_rofl.gif]
No rainbow headbands though. I was more subdued than that. Mine was homemade (yes, I made it myself) out of denim w/a rawhide lace behind. I also made stash bags, some were even lined!!
