Default Motorcycles and Motorcycle projects

Post up your Motorcycles and any projects you have done with them!

My first XT I purchased in 1978 which was a 1976 model. I owned a couple over the years and acquired a 1976 with less then 11k miles and in somewhat good condition. I did only a few things and mostly just rode it on the road or on the railroad side trail to and from my house and the local grocery store in Santa Cruz Calif. That was around 2005? I don't think I put more than 30 miles on the XT in over 15 years. Now I am interested in getting it back into what consider reliable PLUS condition.
So what started out to simply clean detail and change a few common service parts like wheel bearing, tires chain and sprocket is now a full blown completely torn down to the bare frame re-build up and improve project.

This is the XT just as it was March 11 and now it is in the spare bedroom for re-assembly as I slowly refinished it.

Parked for several years next to the Mazda.

And as of today in the spare bedroom.

I just recently re-painted the Tank a Toyota bright white. Had the frame powder-coated and did a rear fender conversion. Also completely disassembled the rear shock and repainted the components.

Still a long way to go. Wheels are a personal refinishing challenge because i did not want to spend the money for new rims and spokes. And the engine is torn down as well.
More pictures to post as the project moves on.

Cleaning, sanding , painting some powder-coating is slow task.

It is slow going. You would be surprised how many small parts or just the number of parts overall there are on a simple Enduro (street/dirt motorcycle) of that time period.

Currently working on the upper end. I will be porting and polishing the intake exhaust ports and boring cylinder for new piston and rings.

My lovely DRZ400SM experiencing an engine knock. There's some good scoring seen here and some play in that connecting rod as well. In any case, got it cleaned up and down to the bare casing. I will be installing a new crankshaft, bearings etc and throwing a 441 big bore kit at it as well. This DRZ never fails to surprise me haha
