Manual or Automatic
I am in the UK and have always had manual Honda Civics, but just before Christmas treated myself to a brand new manual Mazda 3 Takumi.
I simply feel better connected to the road using a manual.
If you were buying a new car today, would you buy manual or automatic?

Automatic
Manual transmissions are by far more fun but in traffic around town a pia.
Besides most platforms have sport shift and or paddle shifting so there really is no advantage to a manual anymore for a Dailey driver.

i drive in highway traffic a lot so it doesn't make sense to have a manual anymore...they are more fun to drive though and if my commute ever changes maybe i will go back...the paddle "shifters" on any car with a cvt are just about usless other than in snow to use engine braking instead of the brakes...the shift mode on my cx-5 i have used maybe once or twice so far...don't see myself using it much but i haven't played with it in the snow yet to see if it's as effective to slow down vs my previous car

I remember "back in the day" when I attended a few performance driving schools to improve my road track abilities , it is an eye openers of how badly and how there are so many misconception on how to drive from most every driver out on the roads. ROLMAO
Then later in defensive driving course trying to teach bad habits is the bulk of the training.

I strongly recommend that you should look into getting a Versa Tune and then aside from only using there packaged ECU files contact them directly for a tailored ECU calibration specifically for use in low traction operating environment..
I would offer my services but unfortunately, I have not decided to add Mazda (and not likely to ) to my ECU/EFI Performance calibrating business. To many wannabe "toon"ers to compete with and cleaning up their bad ECU calibrating.

meaning if i ever change jobs and my commute doesn't put me in traffic maybe i will buy another true manual vehicle instead of an automatic, after i bury this car...not going to buy another car when this one works perfectly fine (doesn't make sense financially) and as i said i have no desire to tune any car...point a to b, that is all i care about...not tweaking performance or cosmetic add ons unless i find them functional or i like them (decals)...the shift mode on the cx-5 isn't something i will use often other than possibly in the snow depending how it feels...may entertain adding a motorcycle in the future to have some fun with a manual shift again but that is a long way off, so my 125cc automatic scooter will be my 2-wheel fun for now
I drive a manual trans vehicle, more than I do any of my auto trans vehicles......and most of my driving is in-town traffic. I just prefer a manual trans vehicle......especially if the clutch is hydraulically operated, like most are now-a-days.
Lets see hmmmmm B2000 with an automatic ....not your style and what a waste if it were.
I could never even consider my 02 MCS with an automatic transmission
