Engine Cover
they make so much power because of the lack of moving parts.
a rotary engine is pretty much a crankshaft, and thats all.
so they can spin to really high rpms.
ive seen them go up to ~15,000rpm

My first experience was an RX2, automatic, station wagon and I couldn't believe that anything above idle, from about 12-13k on,it just revved and pulled! And an auto to boot!! But it also sucked up some fuel too though.
Drove the thing to Philadelphia and back to northern NJ on a parts trip for an MB diesel cyl head. Not knowing anything about Wankel's at the time, I thought the thing was gonna let me sit every time I started it and this huge cloud of blue smoke poured out of the exhaust.

The early rotory's, single 4bbl carb and little or no emissions installed(RX2's, 3's and 4's) were much easier to see, but like they said, it's a quite small, oval shaped package that produces the equivalent power of a 6 cylinder.
