Default Where is the supercar?

Well I always wondered this. Why does Mazda not make a speed machine. I mean, the RX 8 is a great car. It handles nice and has decent accleration. But where is the 0-60 in 4 seconds car? I know Mazda won the Le Mans race back in 91 or 92 with a rotary powered race car. It had something around 500 horses. If Mazda made a street version of this car, they would kick the corvettes, mustangs and vipers out of the market.

anyone with me or have an answer?

yeah that would be awesome. But I still think that is not going to happen for a while. I mean the Rx 7 was faster. Why did Mazda replace the RX 7 with a slower car. No offense to Mazda and the Rx8. I love the Rx 8. It's just I think they could make it alot faster. I mean, the new Eclispe can go faster!

Yes the 3rd gen twin turbo tore up the road but notice they only offered if the in the US from 93-95. Car was more than Mazda bargained for and I think they regretted releasing the model. There were ALOT of problems with the car and they were very complex in being both a fast sports car and still having to meet very strict emissions regualations. Having been one that has both driven the car a great number of times but also having to repair I would give one very honest opinion. I would love to have one as long as I neither had to pay for the repair or do it myself. And yes Mazda did win LeMans but that was with a four rotor race car. The 8 and 7 have only been half that. The RX8 still moves right along on its own right. I do not think Mazda wants to compete with the supercar class. Look at the competion. The Major movers in supercars all have vehicles that will push the 200 mph barrier and invest millions in there cars. Yes even Ford has one. The competition is too fierce in that arena. Even Mitsu and Toyota and Subaru invest tons in getting a few more horsepower out of there cars. Look at the money you have too spend to get to that level. Mazda is happy putting out cars that are in the top group of their class and I doubt that they will push that envelope at anytime soon. They are giving little pokes here and there with there speed vehicles and I think they will continue to poke and hopefully even give a little shove in the near future. I think a speed 8 with a GOOD turbo system will give a very hard poke if not good shove to the competition. I will be a happy first driver when one comes in to be checked for delivery. [8D]

Honestly, why is everyone so concerned about HP?? Anyone can go fast in a straight line. You guys have some of the best handling values out there. My Forester XT is fast enough to smoke an RX-8 (a hard learned lesson for that driver), but would I keep up with him when we enter the technical sections that have hairpins and switchbacks?? I think not. That's where a COMPETENT driver has to use the tools under him in combination with his brain in order to produce results.

The Miata is a really good example. I have a friend with his Miata that can go out on almost any extremely twisty and winding (technical) road, and completely run away from anything that doesn't cost at least 100K. I've been with him when he's had a Porsche Carrera 4 on his tail. That Porsche wasn't there for more than a minute and a half, before my friend had shown him how to drive.

will mazda is kind of like honda in a way, they don't quite want to build one yet, i think because they can make more a profit of the public then in the racing industry and if they got a car going for $65,000 not many people would really buy one
