Question Spark plug replacement suggestions for 2011 Mazda 3S

Looking for spark plug suggestions for my 2011 3S. Should i go with an OEM type or upgrade.

If possible i would like to get better performance and/or gas milage. Also, will i need to gap any that i get?

A few comments:
  • These days there really is no such a thing as an upgrade. Said another way, it is virtually impossible to buy a spark plug which will perform better than the OEM plugs.
  • The above said, if you ask around, the vast majority of folks who went with the latest "Super-Hot Quad-Unobtanium-Electode" plugs end up with a reduction in performance and/or noticeable misfires.
  • Stick with the OEM plugs, they were specified by the highly trained Mazda engineers to provide optimal performance.
  • Modern plugs should not be gapped; the gap they come with from the factory is correct for your engine.
  • No, different plugs will not provide better fuel economy, however, they may very well result in a reduction in fuel economy.
