Default oil coolant pipes

can any of u mazda enthusiasts help me I have a three year old 230bhp RX8 bought it brand new from mazda dealer fully serviced by them last 3 years and found on friday it was leaking oil.. They say it is the oil coolant pipes and that they are not under a recall, they seem of have coroded even though the car has only done 20,000 miles. The warranty expired on oct 26th 07 and they are quoting almost £700 for parts and labour. Does anyone else have this problem with RX8?

Default RE: oil coolant pipes

Hello,

My girlfriend's RX8 has just had the same problem. She was only 50 yards from home and the car dumped it's oil from corroded oil cooler pipes. The car was 4 months out of warranty.

She drove it home, and called the Madza dealer who refused to collect it. She paid £50 to get it transported to the dealer. Her local independant garage (who services the car) rung the dealer and gave them hell over the phone over the £700 she was quoted for repair. The independant's argument was that pipes should not just wear out or rust through. After much pushing the bill came down to £200.

When she collected the car, the bill was zero. The Mazda dealer claimed that although there was no recall for the problem, every RX8 that came to them was now checked and the pipes were replaced.

I think that Mazda's actions are very questionable. The model clearly has a design problem which it shouldn't have....pipes should not fail at 3 to 4 years because of the material they are made of. They are trying to sting owners into paying by not owning up and issuing a recall.

Personally I'd fax the chief general manager of Mazda UK, stating what the problem is, and that you want the thing fixed for no charge, and that you want him personally to oversee that it's done. If you get any pushback, go straight to the press (Auto Express, Honest John etc), you have nothing to lose. Mazda's reputation is founded on bulletproof reliability and dealer service. They have everything to lose.

My girlfriend is so annoyed about this, the RX is in the Autotrader next week, and we're looking for a nice Alfa Romeo GT or Brera.

Best regards..........Jonathan
