Now I'm obsessed with Mazdas...
Hi! I'm Cathy. I bought a black Mazdaspeed3 this last March.
I went to the dealership looking for something with gas mileage, trunk space, and enough room to haul 4 people and all their fencing equipment (as in swords and masks, not actual fences) on road trips. I walked away with a turbocharged hatchback that sucks 91 octane and has to have the back seats folded down to haul any amount of fencing stuff. I just couldn't walk away without buying this car; I'm in love with it. Can't get enough. I'm hooked for life.
Now I want to race it, but I don't know where to start, and I don't have any friends who race. So I'm looking for Mazda enthusiasts in the Oklahoma area! I want to start modifying my 3, too, beginning with the exhaust. I need advice to that end... Don't want to change it too much, though, I love the way it purrs at me.
My other car is a 77 Trans Am I pulled out of a field and rebuilt back in high school. At least I know how to work on it. Old cars are easy. I just got the engine back in after a rebuild (long story, heheh) and got it running on the first try last weekend. Sweeeet.

RE: Now I'm obsessed with Mazdas...
Thanks!
Yep, it's F body. All the Cameros/Firebirds were, from '67 to 2002. The new ones will be built on different platforms, though. No more F body...
What does your friend have? A Trans Am?

sparky,
Welcome. I'm a little short on time right now, but just to give you a start, look for auto crosses in your area. The SCCA and other local car clubs can be very helpful. I was racing my old Civic w/the Datsun (Yeessss... I said D_A_T_S_U_N, not Nissan) Z boys back in the '80's. That's how I got started. A little sign posted in a local bar, but these days the web is only a click (or 2) away w/all kinds of info on local events.
