New from Maryland
I'm not new here, but I've never introduced myself. I'm a bit of a Mazda fan, there's been one in the driveway for the past 35 years. Not the same one. Five different ones. I have to admit, in 99 I bought a Subaru Forester to haul computers and CRT monitors for my business, then I replaced the 99 with 07 Forester and 15 years later, it's time for something new.
I did some math, 720,000 miles on the Mazdas cost me about $2500 in unexpected maintenance (not including consumables). 260,000 Subaru miles have cost me about $6500. I think I'll replace the Forester with a Mazda. I've come here for advice.

Welcome from another Marylander. We are also a Mazda / Subaru household with the same thoughts about the cost of maintenance.
At 80,000 to 100,000 miles, Subarus need wheel bearings, head gaskets and so on while the Mazdas need only the recommended maintenance.

Thanks.
Picked up Mazda #6 last night. A CPO 2020 CX-5 GT with the premium package in Blue Mica with black interior. 16,300 miles (26,232 km).
I'm going to have to take a class to figure out what's in this car then another one to learn how to use everything!
I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.

Just spend some time in the driveway trying out all the menu options. Do it again in a month or two to refine your set up. My favorite is the ability to set when it locks and unlocks. I have it set to unlock when I put it in park. That way people don't open the door until I am ready for them to open the door.

Ive always stayed away from second hand cars but after fixing one Mazda and seeing how easy they are to work on im gonna flat out and say that the late 90s and early 2000 mazdas are basically the same as the late 90s toyota corollas in terms of reliability and ease to work on.
Dont like Subarus, never have.
Thanks for sharing that youve owned mazda for years, gives me some confidence that this was a good brand to practice learning auto mechanics with.
