Default New here with a classic Mazda 1985 GLC

This is a tread I'm starting for a friend. This 1985 GLC is her pride and joy. She has never been involved in forums so I thought I would share her GLC with the fourm and see if we can find out anymore information on this car. I've done some research on the car and it seems to be a change over year. She has already replaced the carburetor but it wasn't exactly right. We would like to find a place to get a rebuild kit for the carburetor and its getting to the point its going to need some gaskets throughout the engine. I think the engine is the 1.5L with less than 100,000 miles but I will know more when she gets me some pictures of the tags under the hood. Enjoy the pics and feel free to add any information you may know to help us. Thanks

I have an '86 sitting in my garage, needs a little work on it but looks identical to yours except mine is a chocolate brown. Nice little car and cheap on fuel, mine has a 2.0ltr engine. I found that there is a governor on it though as the engine cuts out when you hit 100 mph then cuts back in at around 95 mph. The speed limit in Ontario however is only 100kmh, (62.5 mph) so the governor really didn't bother me.

Its nice to hear there's a few more still out there. Couple questions for you. Is your model year fuel injected or carburetor? Would you mind posting a few pictures of yours?

WHOA!!! That is an oldie!!
Have you (your friend that is) considered doing a Weber or Makuni swap?
Webers are more certainly easier to find, but the Makuni is probably a better carb all around. And they are both fully adjustable using a jet kit.

There has already been a carburetor swap done but it was a carburetor from eBay that was supposed to fit her make and model car but it's not quite right. She still has the original. We were looking to rebuild it or find information about a better alternative. If you would please post more information about the carbs you have mentioned that would be great. Weber is a name I know but the other one I've never heard of. Thanks a lot.

Sorry, I screwed up, I believe mine is a 1987, it's been stcuck in my garage for about ten years now and not been driven as it won't start, I'm pretty sure it's the timing belt that's screwed but when I was working I didn't have the time to look at it so i bought a '97 626 with 2.5 in it so that I could tow my trailer., I kinda wrecked that one a few years back, well front end damage and it didn't pass the emissions test we have in Ontario so I picked up a '98 v6 but that was then T boned at an intersection so it went to the scrap yard.

I'm now driving a 2000 626 v6 and I have the slave or clutch master cylinder problem on it that i mentioned in another thread.

Just waiting for a guy from NAPA to call me back to let me know he has them both in then I'm off to pick them up., I figured that for what they cost I'll just swap them both out as I have access to a heated garage belonging to a friend of mine at the moment. My 87 is carburetted and one day I'll get around to putting it back on the road but it's winter here, bloody cold, my own garage has no heat and I have a heart problem so I don't do well in cold weather.

I'm 70 yrs old now so tend to take it a little easy when it comes to overdoing things. I rebuilt my first engine when I was 18 yrs old, I was an aircraft mechanic in the Royal Air Force in the UK and it seems I have been working on cars ever since. LOL
