Default Mazda 2 audio

Hi
I’m having some trouble trying to connect my phone to my car. I have a Mazda 2 venture edition 2013 with the in built Tom Tom and variety of cables which come out the glove box.
When I bought the car I bought a phono (red and yellow) to headphone jack cable which connects to the in built iPod audio cables and a phone charger which connects to the in built usb cable. This has always played my music and I am able to get the songs and album details up on the digital screen.
However I recently bought a new iPhone which only had the lightning port and so I no longer have the headphone port.
I bought a aux and lightning adaptor to plug the phono cable and the charger into and then into the lighting port on my phone however the audio won’t play now but it will charge.
I can use an aux cable with my phone and car to play the music through the speakers but i like to be able to have the details on the screen.
Im not sure what else to try or if I have done this wrong?
Hopefully someone can help
thanks
