Default Fresh meat

New dude here, I'm Brian I'm a mechanic in the US Army. Came from Georgia not sure where I'll end up.

I just bought a '86 323 1.6l 4dr Sedan and already got a few questions.

Take it easy,
Brian

Why? Deisels, especially these days and in this country, are a growing business. Plus you can squeeze/gain a lot of power from a deisel w/relatively little input... so I"ve been told (<<< I am NOT a deisel mechanic. )

My distaste for diesel is all personal. Its a great power supply when done correctly but the military has done nothing correctly.

When does our government do anything correctly these days.
For what it"s worth, I had an aversion to diesel powered passenger cars for a long time too. I still have trouble when I see diesel Drags or other such things spewing raw fuel in the form of black smoke from their stacks. What a waste. Not an efficient way to run any engine, imho.

But then again, I know of a couple of Cummins powered Fords that are getting 20 plus MPG pulling boats (yes plural at least 2 at a time).

My problem with diesel isn't it's mpg, it's the amount of smog producing particulate like Richard said. If there were a greater prevalence of bio-diesel stations in NC we might have purchased a diesel car. Since we don't we want to avoid us spewing way more crap into the air then we can avoid.

you are in good company here. my dad is a retired diesel mechanic and one of my good friends was a tank mechanic in the marines years ago. he said they do have a pretty messed up way of running things.
