I just purchased a 2009 CX-7 that cranks but doesn't start. It has a 2.3l turbo engine. Does anyone know if this model will still crank with a snapped timing chain? When the timing chain breaks does it always seize the engine thru piston to valve contact?

 

Open the oil filler cap, shine a torch in and look for the camshaft when someone else cranks the engine over.

Its not unknown for the chain to skip a tooth or two when the tensioner or chain wears out.
