Default tranny fluid swap help

Ok, i have an 07 mazda 6 2.3L no turbo. I'm at 55,000 miles and in need of a transmission fluid change. My fluid is currently gold, well a dirty gold now. I assume the fluid is T IV fluid just because of the color, but this transmisson calls for MV?? Now I've heard of all kinds of horror stories of mixing the 2 fluids? but is that only in the 6-speeds (the MV not being sufficient enough), or is it a total incompatible mix? I just have a 5 speed, and I'm not sure what to do. I was gonna swap out the filter too, but the dealer told me not to, as they run into more problems disturbing all the particles inside. They reccomended just draining, and replacing the fluid with MV??? What do you guys think??

Thanks

Default It depends on what kinda guy you are...

I first need to mention I like doing stuff the hard way...my granddad always said that "if something is worth doing, it's worth over doing!"

In that spirit you can tell I'm the kind of guy who would drop the pan and replace the filter and gasket and add all new fluid. If you've got to be under there anyway, you might as well do the whole deal and rest assured that it was done right. There's nothing worse than fixing something only to have to go and take it all back apart to fix something else you should have replaced when you were in there the first time!

All that being said, if you opt for the less drastic course of action I would not go for mixing the fluids.
