How many of you have tranny coolers installed or did it ur selves?

 

I don't think any forum members did it but one person is planning to do it in the future. The transmission is hardly something you need to worry about heating up though.

 

Oh really?, i was under the impression everyone who cared about their tranny was doing this...3sp us with automatic transmissions

those are a great investment if you are constantly racing your vehicle at higher rpms. that would cause the fluid to depreciate quicker. but if you are doing normal-day-driving, you should not have to worry about overheating. if you really want to keep your engine bay cooler for cheap, take out your lower-grille-inserts and put in a mesh grille. that is less restricting of air and will keep parts cooler.

haha, awesome alyssa... it's been a while! almost forgot about that until you mentioned that. i'll have to get a few pictures when i'm off work during the day to show my newest mods to my vehicular.

 

Got 1 on mine. Pretty easy, if you get a small cooler then use it with the stock cooler. If you want to bypass the factory than get the biggest you can fit.

 

Auto trans cooler is a good idea no matter what you drive. Have external coolers on both of our Auto trans Mazda's.

If you plan on keeping the car past the regular warranty then a trans oil cooler is a super cheap addition that will give you a lot longer transmission life.

 

From what I know about the Mazda autostick in the 6 (I know quite a few techs at Mazda dealers!), I would recommend doing an additional cooler - especailly if you are going to use the manual function very much at all. [8D] Heat kills the fluid! Bad fluid kills your transmission! [:@] Also, fluid flushes should be done as well (every 15K miles driven hard to every 30K miles driven normally). It's all about longevity. If you want it, take care of it.
