I'm running 225/45R18's (which would be about equivalent in overall size) with no issues on my wife's Mazda6 Sportwagon.

I have 225/45/17 on my car. I know its not the correct size, but I went with these tires becuase I lowered my car alot and it prevents it from rubbing. It is also gives it a better look I think because they are lower profile, and one of the major reason is that I got all for tires for $200.

I know a friend who put 225/50/17 on his Mazda 6, and according to him, there's no problem or any issue.

I run 235/35/18's on my 6 and the only reason I had to roll my rear fenders was because with my coilovers I am lowered about two inches now too.
