Tire size for the M6
Just wondering if anyone out there swapped tires on their M6, my 6s came with 17" and I'm thinking of swapping for 16" Toyos Proxes 4, 225/55R16 99V.
Just wondering if nayone tried this and how it worked out.

RE: Tire size for the M6
Should work just fine assuming the wheels are the proper offset (stock is 17x7, 60mm offset for reference)
16" wheels will clear the brake calipers.
I don't have time to run the numbers, but you may want to go to tirerack.com and use their tire size computer to see if these would be the same overall diameter at the stock 215/50R17.....

225/55-16 will work, the over all diameter is just 1% bigger than the stock 215/50-17. That means the speedometer will also be 1% too slow compared to actual speed. I know the tire is wider but everybody else is doing +1 or +2 ? I have 225/45-17 on my 2006 V6 Sport. It handles better, but the ride is more bumpy. Why spend $ on getting 16" rims instead of buying a good set of 17" tires for the rims you already have ?

P.S. The 225/45-17 over all diameter is 2% SMALLER than stock which means the speedometer is 2% HIGHER that the actual speed. In general, the diameter should be within 3% of stock.

I don't know why, but the "stock" tire size for the M6 over here is 215/45R17. I learned the hard way that those were impractical, as the 87W tires provided very little protection for the stock rims, which were way too easy to dent and bend. Three of them were undrivable within the first six months, and i managed to kill two other sets of aftermarket 17s in a couple of months. So I switched to stock 16s with 225/50R16 (about 1% larger diameter than "our" stock). Problem solved. A set of Potenza G3 summers made the car way stickier than the standard R050's, which were crap.

I roll out on a set of B.F.G KDW G-Force T/A's SIZE: 235/35/18 and am running them on aftermarket 18" rims as well as TEIN coilovers lowered about 1 1/2 and I DID roll the rear fenders, but that was to accomodate the drop, not the wheel/tire size as those were just fine before I changed the suspension.

The offset is a non-issue unless you lower the car too,but I think mine are a 48mm offset(not positive)you'd have to check the website for sure(I'm selling the wheels anyway,I ordered new ones)

I can however show you how they fit from a sidewiew:
I hope that helps! These pics are with 18's and a TWO inch drop!

Nicely done. However, I do have to disagree with you about the offset being a non-issue. I once ran mine with offset 40 17's (stock everything) and I found that it does affect handling a bit. The steering lost some self-centering ability and I lost a noticable amount of steering feel, and every little irregularity on the surface seemed to jerk the wheels (and steering) sideways. It was quite difficult to keep the car in a straight line on anything but mirror-smooth surfaces. Turn-in was also much less responsive. So yes, it does make a difference. And while stock 215/45's never rubbed on those rims, 235/40's did in the back.
