Default Throttle body spacer

I just read about this mod on another Mazda forum. Has anyone here tried it and found any results?

I might be willing to try it largely depending on the cost, but am not aware of anyone that makes a proper spacer for our cars.

Doesn't really add any power. 1 maybe 2 hp at most.

Apparently the one for the ford fusion fits our cars, it's $79 at Steeda.

I would pay $79 for a few more horses and allegedly better mileage.

I bought it from Steeda for my 2006 6 3.0L. It is the one for the Fusion and works fine. As far as power increase, I think it would be hard to "feel" one or two more HP, so I can not truthfully say that it did increase power. One thing it does inbelieveably is make the intake sound awesome, almost "blowoff valveish". I do have a full Mazdaspeed CAI, so that may contribute to it as well, but the CAI did not make that sound by itself, pre-spacer. I read about the sound on different threads, but questioned it, (skeptic that i am) let me tell you that it absolutely sounds different at moderate throttle in 1st, 2nd, and part of 3rd gear (I have the 6AT tranny). At the end of the day, I would buy it again and recommed it. Also only takes like 5 minutes to install

.. thought could only use spacers on systems with throttle cables.. not the angle reading sensor ones..?

Note there is not one for the Mazda, but note the vortex gen on it.
You could take one you will get to a machine shop & have them grind
something like it.

I would "Design Your Own Custom Cold Air Intake"
Bigger to hold more air.

& add a Vortex gen to it. Only with an bigger air pipe than stock will it work!

A vortex generator? Geez, one of the biggest scam items of the last few decades. Dude, get a clue, vortex generators don't do squat for performance (and CAIs do next to nothing).

I have to agree with Dale (shipo.)
The Vortex Gen is about as useful as the electric supercharger. It's a good way to separate you from your money. And if you get a badly made one, your engine can ingest pieces of it too. Not a good idea.

As for the CAI: You're thinking that bigger is better is also flawed, imo. If you were to suddenly increase the physical size of the combustion chamber/engine capacity, you might need to do that. But you would also need alternate tuning so as to not confuse the MAF.
Adding a bigger "pipe" to the intake of a modern car will only cause you grief w/o the tuning and support to compensate for it.
On a stock engine, it would only serve to slow the velocity of the air entering the engine, assuming the same volume of air is being called for by the TB, reducing atomization of the fuel/air mixture. What you propose seems like a VERY bad idea, especially for your average DD and average driveway mechanic.

A vortex does work I looked at these in all my cars going back to 1996.
In a stock setup they work not for high rpms / HP. It is more like for mpg.
All it does is help get the air better thru the butterfly valve better.
You will notice you will have more power with less throttle at low rpms.
But when you go wide open you will feel the blockage with it.

Yes it is a blockage at high rpms unless you change the size of the air pipe so it will hold more air. So it will not be a blockage, because there will be more air than stock.

I cover more on them at:

It is quite clear by your numerous ill thought out posts that you don't have a clue about how engines operate. I've read most of your 31 posts and not one piece of "advice" you've given had a solid foundation in fact; so much so that I pray that some unsuspecting member doesn't read the bilge that you've been spewing and then sets out to do irrepairable damage to their car.
