Default Starting issues

Hello... I have a 2005 Mazda 6 Isport I think.... 4 Cyl automatic.... I bought the car used and been haveing some issues with it... I turn the key and it will fire right up... But in some cases you turn the key and it will sit there and crank for 10 seconds and then fire up... Or you turn the key and let it crank then turn it off and turn it on again and it will fire up.. Car runs perfect except for just that one problem... Anyone have any idea what it is? It dose it randomly throughout the day dose not matter if its warm or cold or how long you drive it.... Any information would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Check fuel pressure. U say u can turn the key off then back on and it will fire. When u do that it's priming the engine again with fuel. But key things are spark fuel and air

U will need a gauge to plug in the fuel line right where it attaches to the fuel rail. May just be easier to have it diagnosed and go from there. Might also have it checked for codes.

It does sound like the fuel is bleeding back into the tank when it should stay in the lines, it takes time to get the fuel all the way back up to the injectors when the lines are empty. My 323 on the first start of the day will crank for about 5-7 seconds then fire right up each and every time for the rest of the day. I know mine is draining back slowly because if I prime the system, key on, wait, key off, key on, wait, key off, key on, start it starts right up.

Interesting. Why is it bleeding back? how is the air getting into the fuel rail? Could a crack in the membrane of the fuel pressure regulator cause this?

Only thing I can relate this problem to is a common one on the chevy forum. Chevrolets (later models) have a check valve in the system that prevents bleed back.

Could be a good sign that your fuel pump is dying a slow death. How many km's/ miles has your car done?

It's been awhile sense my last post but I thought I would tell you all what the problem was.... After a week or so the fuel pump died so I replaced it and works perfect now.

I have to say this about grim_reaper: he is a man of few words and those few words are spot on!
