Speed governer

Hey all, new to the forums. Just wondering on how to remove the speed gov. Does anyone know how?

RE: Speed governer

yeah, i need to do that too with my mazda6.

RE: Speed governer

Easy fix. Take out your PCM. Kidding. Speed governor fixed in pcm memory. How fast do you want to go? Have not taken a 3 or 6 up to speed yet but have had an 8 up to 148 mph before had to shut down due to upcoming traffic on the highway. 148 mph is plenty fast for me. How fast have you pushed your 3 or 6??

RE: Speed governer

I've only been doing around 90/95. I dont wanna jam the acceleration cause i'm still breaking my car in. I'll unleash her around 2000 miles on her tranny. Then I wont have to worry about how long the road is. :D

RE: Speed governer

Lol, well I really havent push my baby yet, but I heard that she shuts down at 120. Theres and ecu upgrade on http://corksport.com/tab0.4/store/ca...te-engine.html Dont know if it takes the speed governor off though. And
Ive been 140 with my friend in an Acura Integra gs-r.

lostbethus 09-06-2005 11:55 PM

RE: Speed governer

I also found this http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/UNI1320021.htm for the ecu. But i still dont know if that overrides the speed
governor, I might try and e-mail both companys and ask. Just have to get my e-mail working.

babyhuey 09-07-2005 04:08 AM

RE: Speed governer

140 quite a rush isn't it?!?!?! Can you imagine being behind the wheel of a top fuel drag car at the end of a 1/4 mile? I can't but would be a hell of a ride.

the_gray_mazda6 09-07-2005 03:41 PM

RE: Speed governer

now that would be one hell of an experience ;)

RE: Speed governer

ive gotten my m3s up to 120mph on the highway...just wouldnt go anymore...but i got up to 150mph (scary fast!!!) in my pop's Mercedes E55 AMG! going that fast cars actually look like theyre driving towards you on the highway. that car puts anything to shame.

lostbethus 09-08-2005 05:27 PM

RE: Speed governer

Lol, nice.

the_gray_mazda6 09-08-2005 10:57 PM

RE: Speed governer

never gone that fast, but i topped out at 118mph in a 1996 ford explorer.... now that is scary as hell

lostbethus 09-09-2005 12:05 AM

RE: Speed governer

Ha ha, ive also gone 108 in a Dodge durango(felt like i was going 40) and 120 in a volvo s40. Ran out of road for the volvo but the durango has a speed governor also.

babyhuey 09-09-2005 12:15 AM

RE: Speed governer

ESPECIALLY in an Explorer.

the_gray_mazda6 09-09-2005 03:46 PM

RE: Speed governer

yeah, my "X" was shaking real bad around 90-100mph, then she smoothed out again but roads in my area arent too long.... lots of bends. But I have never come close to rolling it or tipping it.

MAZDASERVICE 09-09-2005 07:14 PM

RE: Speed governer

NOT AVAILABLE.... SORRY....PLUS ----->IS IT WORTH BLOWING THE MOTOR OR TRANSMISSION CAUSE YOU WANNA DRIVE 150MPH-WARRANTY WOULD BE VOID IN THAT CASE.

RE: Speed governer

Thats a good question. Maybe

RE: Speed governer

I posed this same question under General Tech titled "Removal of Top Speed Governors". From what I understand, it will void your warranty with any tampering with the computer. I've topped my out at 200kmh(125mph) and the governor kicks in and the speed drops to 160kmh(100mph). It's disappointing as there is so much more car.
One of my past cars was a newer BMW 3 series. It did not have a governor on it and I had the needle buried once, 240kmh+(150mph+) for an hour following a new Mustang Cobra. What a rush! Everything else after that seemed slow. 1400km(875mile) trip took just over 8 1/2 hrs with no tickets. Won't be doing that again anytime soon.

babyhuey 09-15-2005 04:19 AM

RE: Speed governer

Thought they maybe only put a speed governor on US spec vehicles but looks like they have the same in Canada. I wonder if they have the same in Euro spec or other models? If someone is on from outside North American market will you let us know if you have any top speed restrictions built into your vehicle??:D Might have to take above 120 mph or whatever kph that equates to but would be worth the test[sm=americanasmiley.gif]

RE: Speed governer

Don't get too crazy on those stock Michilens ;) I've had my old Miata at the rev-limiter in 5th gear around 135. My buddy in left me in his 300ZX doing well in excess of 150MPH. We opened them up on the interstate after work around 2:00AM. Slowing down to 70MPH afterwards felt like I was in a school zone. Last time I'll go that fast. Too much to lose these days.

RE: Speed governer

Ok, jet has a chip for the 6, but dont know if they can change the speed gov. from that. Heres the site by the way. http://www.jetchip.com/products.asp?...odel=1114#1114

lostbethus 11-06-2005 11:38 PM

RE: Speed governer

Ok ok ok. for all you speed freaks out there that like to go faster than 120 mph, heres your solution. http://cgi.ebay.com/Apexi-RSM-Rev-Sp...QQcmdZViewItem It works for any car and it overides our speed governors. Have fun at the track :D

cndctrdj 01-06-2006 10:40 PM

RE: Speed governer

is it the same speed limiter on all models?

i havnt taken my 6 over 90

but i know on the 94 and 95 TA if you had the 8cyl, z rated tires from the factory, the obd1 computer and the obd2 connector: they skipped the speed limiter, all other 8 cyl from 93-02 with z rated tires got 164 mph speed limiters, and if you didnt have z rated tires they gave you a 118mph speed limiter.

just something to think about with so many different models of the same car floating around it could be different

RE: Speed governer

i dont know how you or why you would want to do that unless you bought car strictly to race and dont need the warranty. I have on 06 3i, bought in september and taken to 100mph so far, had a 1990 chevy beretta and taken to 120 a couple of times, that is fun, but a little scary.

RE: Speed governer

Hey,
I would like to know the same thing, but I don't know if mine has a governer. I don't want to find out the hard way and also I herd that my tires are only rated for 148 mph so they could blow if I got past that for too long. Even thought I have had my 2004 6s with 18,000 miles up to 150 mph for about 5 mins and it never shut down on me. That was one Hell of a rush I was racing a G6 on the interstate at like 4am. But lately the only racing I have done is my friends 2006 Acura RSX and I got him once but he won the other 2 times those things are quick as hell. I would like to see RSX, a 350 Z race because I have driven both of them, and they are both very fast. Has anyone tried the Nissan/ Subaru chip upgrade for the 6 yet?

The Mazda6 cuts out at 124 mph. ;) If you went 150, someone already deactivated the governor.

looking for interior dark gray with light grayu stripe any advice?

RE: Speed governer

I wouldn't do that speed on the stock Michelins however...You are correct that the governor is there for a reason. Get some z-rated tires.

DiNo 01-13-2006 04:24 PM

RE: Speed governer

computer chips are the solution for the speed governor... in I think most cars have them... thats a shame 'cause I think the car could give a lot more! just tryin' out the car i rushed up to 135 milles... I dont know if that implies that my car no longer had the governor It just came yesterday jaja... in my Volvo S60T5 i managed up to 145 milles in my way to school!!! pretty excitin' but a lil risky hehehe...

I too would love an answer to this question,I took mine up to 120mph this morning and that is where the governor kicked in and the pedal went limp on me. Kinda freaked me out at first..lol
Kinda sucks putting all this aftermarket stuff into the Motor, etc then getting shutdown by the car..lol

it's limited by fuel cutoff, so just run a standalone FMU and your golden. i'm running a Haltech and have been up to 140 so far.

I was wondering which Haltech program you are running? and how much did you pay for it, I am really interested about it. do you have any problems with check engine lights?
Thanks
Dave

MrTea 02-23-2006 12:24 AM

RE: Speed governer

it's not program really, it's a a full standalone unit. i have a turbo on the car and it's what i use for fuel...i think you can get one in the 600-800 range? i have the F10X unit

cndctrdj 02-23-2006 03:52 PM

RE: Speed governer

how hard was it to find a turbo manifold for the car?

and is it anything like working with the old ford 2.3 turbo motor out of the mustang/tbird?
there is an amazing aftermarket for those cars, it would be great if it cameover a little bit to us and we could reap the benefits

MrTea 02-23-2006 04:44 PM

RE: Speed governer

nothing like he old 2.3's unfortunately...it's the same as the focus and fusion. finding a turbo manifold is easy now, there are a good 4-5 companies to choose from.

Ive got up to 125 in my mazda 6 but then slowed down because their was no one on the free way and i was rollin through air patrol territory. Sketchy. lol. When i had an explorer i had taken it up to 120. lol. that was intense.

MrTea 02-24-2006 05:38 AM

RE: Speed governer

unless you're speedo is off from tires, going down hill or not in the US, there is no way to surpass the gov. Unless somehow you got the one freak or something?

RE: Speed governer

i dont know if this will work for ours 6's but. i have a 300+hp ford escort and i hated having all that power and the darn ecu would make the car stop at like 105mph.............so what i did was get the wiring diagram for the ecu and found the wire for speed control and cut it and put a switch in line with it in a nice hidden spot. and when i needed to go faster than the 105mph limit i just flipped the switch and she would accelerate until i was bout to over rev past redline which was about 6200rpms in that car.

so im thinkin the same thing would work any ecu. but for some reason it didnt work with an automatic(it got something to with the speed control being tied in with the shift schedule of the car) the thing would come outta first.........i did it to my boys auto integra and auto escort, but it works on manuals. anyone willing to try it, or do i have to? but i guess i could have tried waiting till i got to my last gear and hit the switch then it wouldnt have to switch gears..........hey maybe i'll go do that right now. but it does work.........only thingg is that if u leave the limit off and turn the car off and start it back up it will throw a speed control code......but easily fixed by flipping the switch and restarting the car........i may try it with my 6
