I spoke to a mechanic friend of mine, who suggested the clutch pulley on the alternator may have failed (which puts extra strain on the belt) and to try wedging a screwdriver in the fins (with the belt loose) and turning the pulley by hand - sure enough, the pulley would not turn either way, instead of turning one way but not the other (which is what it should do). Looks like I need to fit a new pulley!

Just received a new INA (Schaeffler) brand pulley by courier; as an aside, I was disappointed to see it is made in China, but then what isn't these days!?!

My Haynes manual doesn't tell me how to remove the alternator (2.0 diesel engine), and I assume the pulley cannot easily be fitted with the alternator in the car; is it just the two bolts on the front of the engine to remove the alternator, and if so, it doesn't look like there is much room to turn a ratchet handle down there! Any tips to do the pulley replacement job would be much appreciated!

Not all Chinese auto parts are the same. Many are contracted by companies like Schaffler Technologies AG & Co or The Schaffler Group. That said even if they part are manufactured outside Germany, they demand strict following of quality control and materials used for their products. Notwithstanding the current politics, China was changing it manufacturing approach regarding many manufacturing qualities and was starting to be recognized worldwide suppling some auto parts with top quality availability. So basically, it is now who the company is regarding many Autoparts instead of what country they are manufactured in.

There are both paid and some free (but not complete or completely the best for DIY) Automotive service manuals available. These generally speaking are better than DIY or web youtube video HOW-TOs.
Sorry but because some members are outside the US and Canada I cant recommend the better on to use.

Sorry, what I DID? I don't recall saying that I fitted it, and I have returned it BTW. I also found a cheaper one that was made in Europe, so a win-win there. Again, I really can't be bothered to correct you on your assumption about where I get my information from, save to say that it is a respected charitable organisation that works with victims of torture and modern slavery (not the mass or otherwise media).

Well, I'm not sure how you manage to export your products to the UK for free (unless you mark up the prices to cover postage) and your end consumer in the UK doesn't have to pay import duties (everything I have ever bought direct from the USA has been held at customs until the import tax is paid) - are car parts (I've never bought car parts from the USA) exempt?

As you say over the pond - have a nice day!

Are you really that thick headed? There are subject material you DONT talk about on some forums . yet you keep posting your personal world beliefs about subject material that should not be discussed on an vehcle forum unless their is an exact area of that forum that allows for it. Try starting one on the off topic area and see how long it lasts before it gets deleted? You are just one of those IMHO that have an agenda. The support to that is how every response you slip in the BS topic taboo.

It is apparent to me that you are new very new to vehicle forums.

As for your proud response of getting the part you need from other sources, well as you did not give the brand name or part number that in itself says something. hahaha!
I would love to know the brand and part number.....feeling brave enough. Just an FYI I have a distributors account @ World Pack. That said if they don't carry it they can with request of their distributors find anything about other part manufactures. i.e. material used in it construction or manufacturing , specification origin of manufacturing etc.
And if they don't have that information of the top 100 global Autoparts suppliers I have either direct accounts retail accounts with those that do so you can't really have a part I can't find everything about.

I'll try to counter your sneering reply with a matter of fact response:

No bravery required to post on here. Manufacturer (Kamoka) offers an extended 7 year warranty on this part: https://7years.kamoka.pl/doc/owrg7_en.pdf

https://webcatalogue.kamoka.pl/#/sea...6/25464/102239

(Awaiting superior, and/or sarcastic reply - or you might just surprise me)....

For anyone doing this job or any other job that requires the aux belt to be loose, here is a little tip / hack that I find helpful:

I have a 3/8" breaker bar (around 14" long) with a pivoting head on it, this is exactly the right length to pull the tensioner up and leave in the "off" position, with the breaker bar handle resting on top of the brake calliper, thereby leaving both hands free to fit a new belt, or change a pulley / tensioner, etc, without having to remove the belt - which is really handy if no assistant is available.

Hope this is of some use to someone.
