why would you want a aftermarket oil filter on a fairly new car ?? there not expensive ! i had a rental company use a aftermarket filter,it blew off, blew the engine and mazda said,,,GOOD LUCK,,NO WARRANTY !!!!!!!! my advise to you,,,stay with the original filter that is 'MADE FOR THAT CAR AND ENGINE ',,take care !!
Why not have an aftermarket part if it is from a reputable company like K&N and it is made for that car. Most oil filters on the market are pretty much universal fit anyway, there is not a specific filter for a specific car and engine, unless you are talking a high end car, like Bentley, ferrari, maybe a Mercedes AMG, not an import or domestic car. I do believe the warranty states that aftermarket parts can be used on the cars, as long as installed by licensed installers and are DOT approved. I dont think they would not hold up the warranty if your oil filter blew off and the engine seized up, that would be considered a mechanic error, not caused by the aftermarket part at all.
True Fram does make a good filter, and the specs between there filter and the K&N filter are basically the same, the thing that makes them different is the K&N filter can be cleaned with every oil change. So since the K&N filter can be cleaned, like the air filter they make, why not go with that since it will end saving you money each oil change since you dont have to buy a new filter. I would suggest if you get one though, that you do the oil change or else the dealer/shop might not clean it, or they could possibly throw it out, like a normal filter. My dealership wont mess with them, just like to K&N air filter, its on you to take care of it.
