OK does anyone have any experiance specifically witha mazda 6s and the variety of OBD Scanner tools out therealso known as OBD Code Readers and Scanners. Checking out Actron and EQUUS but not sure which is better?

 

You can't use any OBDII scanners on the 6. You will need a scanner capable of reading CAN bus. Not sure on the virtues of any specific unit.

 

You should be able to use any OBDII scanner to check for codes on the 6. Some work better than others but do not have any experience dealing with any of the aftermarket scan tools. The CAN bus is just a means for the different computers on the vehicle to communicate by way of a twisted pair of wires on a continuous basis. CAN stands for Controller Area Network and so far has been working fine on the Mazda vehicles. There is a high and low speed CAN depending upon which modules are involved in the communication. Anyway, the difference is scanners mainly deals with how they are able to correctly communicate with the control modules in the car. Some do better with certain vehicles and some worse. Both names are fairly decent in the industry so go on options and price to decide.

 

Odb tools will not work at the present time...there is a recall for some 6's to correct this concern.

most odb tools will get a can communication error.
