Default Need new Tires at 20,000

Hello!

I bought a 200 Mazda 6 in September of 2006. I have taken my Mazda back to the dealer every 5,000 to have the oil changed, tires rotated and all the other maintenance that is recommended. Today I took my car to the same Mazda dealer because the front end was making a terrible noise, especially when I would get up to 35 mph or over. I thought it could bea bearing or maybe one of the tires had a problem, well I got a call to let me know not only were my front tires shot, but my back tires were also and they recommended 4 new tires at $740.00 and then another $70.00 to align them. They also let me know that the tires were NOT covered under my warranty. I am shocked. I have never knows of a set of tires to only make it 20,000.00 miles, especially when all the rotating and balancing had been completed. Has anyone had problems like this? Any suggestions? I think I may call Mazda Customer Service to let them know this is NOT right! There is no way these tires should be shot![:@]

If any one has any suggestions or comments on this one. I would REALLY Appreciate it!

Hello Sheila
You are correct.. it is not right BUT Ihave seen this with Toyota and Suzuki as well. The manuufacturers are buying these tires as cheap as possable to keep their manufacturing costs down and to maximize profit. Unfortunatly it is ALWAYS the consumer that pays in the end.
I know that is not what you wanted to hear ... Sorry.
Let us know how you make out with Mazda Customer Service OK?

How many miles total on the vehicle? did you purchase it new?

I've seen plenty of scammers throw new tires on a vehicle with alignment issues they don't want to fix (salvage repair) If the alignment was out (scrubbing tires) your tires could certainly get eaten up quick. Take a look at your tires, you would be looking for what is called "feathering" bascially the tread wears at an angle to the road causing the lugs to have a wedge shape. The noise you are hearing are those lougs squirming and contacting the ground.

Don't go with the factory Michelins....they are WAY overpriced. Take your car to a Discount Tire or Belle Tire (or similar local tire shop) and get an equivalent size from another brand (I've had good luck with Toyo's...about $120 each) and have them do the alignment there as well. Dealers charge too much IMO.

Thanks for the quick response and you are right, they are cheap tires, Pirelli's!
I just sent a email to the customer service department and if I do not get a call from then, then I plan on calling them. I know most likely there will not be anything done, but I will feel better letting them know how I feel and try to warn anyone else who might buy a Mazda.

I did purchase BRAND NEW! Just turned over 21,000.00
I am for sure NOT going to the dealer.
This car came from the factory with Pirelli tires and I do not like that brand.
Already have a tire guy checking for me.
So in the end I still have to have new tires, just stinks that the cheap tires didn't last any longer than they did. And the dealer knows that when you buy the car, just waiting on the phone call.

Check out the tread about a tire issue in the U.K with the Mazda 5. Interesting!

I always had luck with Good Year Tires as well. Have them on my B3000 and they work well both on & off road

I Have Yokohama Avid T4's on mine and I really like them, pretty good performance (especially for the price),they seem to be wearing fine, but I only have about 2k miles on them so far. Oh, and they also have a 60k mile waranty.

sheshe218, what is the exact problem with your tires ? what size and what kind of Pirelli ?
I have 225/45-17 Pirelli Nero M+S with minimal wear after 22,000 miles and I do 80-90 mph on the highway. But I always pump them up to 35 psi.
