Mazda 6 2006 2.3L

My 6 doesn't seem to have problems cooling - even in summer it never gets past about 55% on the temp gauge even when idling stationary for some time - but it does show very low (2-5%) on cold days while on the highway. Even if it is fully warm because it's been idling for some time when I get on the highway on a 10°C (50°F) day and go 100kp/h (60mph) the gauge doesn't take long to drop to 2-5% on the gauge. Or maybe this is completely normal.
