Mazda6 vs. Grand prix vs. Altima
The grand prix is the most horrible car ever (my personal opinion). I had one for a loaner about a month ago when they were looking at my 6 and it just didn't compare. It was incredibly uncomfortable (like sitting on a brick), the turning radius sucked, the stereo couldn't compare, and it felt like I was driving a boat rather than a car. The way the controls were situated also made it feel kinda cramped. I love my 6...it's quick, comfy, and the stereo (BOSE) will pound if needed. I have stock headlights on mine, which are insanely bright....the highbeams light everything up, especially on those super dark roads. I have a 2.3L (to save on insurance and gas) and it has plenty of power for an everyday driver...plenty of zip! Get a 6 and you won't be disappointed!!!!
What year was the GP that you were loaned? I've been in both cars and didn't see a big difference in seat comfort. Also, edmunds.com says the turning circle for the GP is SMALLER than the 6. The stereo is of no concern to me. I'm sort of an audiophile and will be changing it anyhow.
I believe it was an '05. I noticed that the stereo and controls were on a weird angle, facing towards the driver. That's more of a personal prefence and I wasn't a big fan of it...made me feel like I was in a box. I couldn't wait to get my car back after driving the GP...I just wasn't a big fan of it. I also think the 6 has a sportier look to it, which is important to me.
Just traded my 2003 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE Auto for a Mazda 6s Auto. Handling on the Mazda is a huge improvement, so is ride quality, interior noise when driving. Fit and feel is also better. Dont get me wrong I love the Altima but after 2 struts on the right front and 1 on the front, brakes done 3 times in the front and exessive tire wear. BYE BYE. That was with 86,000 miles. I still have my 01 Pathfinder with 99,000 runs mint. Only thing I can say is put that 3.5 in the Mazda, that would be mint.
Has there been any problems replacing the stock stereo in the 6? I know they never used to make a dash kit for it, but Metra does now. I know the GP has a lot of stuff integrated into the radio, so there's a lot of crap involved if you want to replace the stock HU. Also, If I got a 6 with navigation, would i still be able to replace the stock radio?
