Default Mazda 6 in snow

My daughter just got a Mazda 6, she lives in Connecticut. How is it in snow? There is an AWD Mazda 3 in the household
so she can get out, but generally speaking is it really bad in snow? Should I invest in snow tires?

If you /her plan to drive in snow, then you should fit snow tyres.

She will have to drive in snow, and although they clean the roads better and quicker in Connecticut than Long Island I agree with you that its best to
have snows.

I recently got a 2019 mazda 6. I've always owned a truck or SUV and this is my first car in over 25 years. Needless to say, living in MA I was concerned about getting around in the winter. I got a set of steel wheels and a set of Sumitomo Ice Edge tires. We had a pretty good storm a few weeks back and the car was great in the snow. I attribute it to the snow tires, and the traction control. I was amazed at how good the car handled the snow covered roads, no spinning or slipping at all.

IMO...Quality snow driving habits and experience will serve her better than snow tires will. For a FWD mid-size sedan, good all-season tires will serve just as well as snows. Modern sedans ride low and have front wind deflectors to help with aerodynamics and fuel economy. Once snow is over 5-6 inches, her Mazda will turn into a snow plow anyway. Keep in mind, snow tires don't work on ice any better than all-season tires. Better habits and experience. Teach her about car dynamics and weight shift scenarios to deal with controlled turns and braking in the snow. She will be better off in the long run.

All that said, our snowfalls in Ohio are nothing compared to Connecticut, but snow is snow and a Mazda6 is a Mazda6.

Depends where in Ohio you are. I lived in Cleveland for a number of years. We’d get slammed with lake effect snow while 10 miles south wouldn’t even have had flurries. I do agree that driving skills on snow makes a ton of difference in how well and safely you can progress. Now the guy driving behind you....that’s a different story....
