Looking for reputable MAZDA mechanic in the DMV to work on my 2005 Mazda6 5spd manual
Other then the rotary engines in the RX Mazdas, I would look for a good local mechanic. There is nothing too unique about Mazdas that require unique skills.
Ask your neighbors who the use and what they think of them. My mechanic is great. I trust him to be honest and I have never felt he did work that was not needed. My guy is 50 miles too far north or west for you but you should be able to find someone similar in your area.

Finding a shop to service your vehicle :
Basic look for.
Ask neighbors and friends who they use and what services were done. Something requiring diagnostic problem solving of the operating systems.
Look for BBB reports
Find a shop that has ASE signs on their building or street signs and when you go into the office displays the individual Technicians certification and current status of certification.
You DO NOT WANT (justa) mechanic to be working on your year MAZDA!
All vehicle's manufactured and sold in the USA from 2000 and newer sold in the USA require a higher skill level that must be taught through schools or specific automotive institutions offering advance Technical Automotive Servicing. Not someone that has "self learned" or taken ROCKO's Home School for advance grease Monkey mechanics and obtained a gold star of passing 40% or less test score! lol
